The Kinderzeche in Dinkelsbühl is a traditional children’s and local festival with roots in the 17th century. In the historical festival, which has been staged since 1897, schoolchildren and over 1100 active participants re-enact a local legend in which children save Dinkelsbühl from the Swedes during the Thirty Years’ War. The festival takes place annually around the third Monday in July, with seven performances and parades on Sundays and Mondays. All participating children traditionally receive a bag filled with sweets. Historical dances and intensive preparations from Easter onwards round off the program.
