Wertheim Castle Once the seat of the Counts of Wertheim, this castle complex, which originally belonged to the von Staufen family and dates from the 12th century, is amongst the largest and most beautiful stone castle ruins in the south of Germany. During the Thirty Years War, the castle came under heavy fire and was severely damaged. Many concerts and other events take place against this fabulous backdrop.
