Kalkbrenner chapel

After the birth of her 17th child at Christmas 1891, Franziska Schmid was dying. In this hopeless situation, Johann and Franziska Schmid made a vow to build a chapel in honor of the Mother of God if Franziska Schmid recovered. After her happy recovery, they kept their vow and built the chapel on their property on the Lech between 1892 and 1895. It was given the name Kalkbrenner Chapel because of the lime burning trade that the Schmid family practiced.
