Dinkelsbühl

Minster of St George

One of the finest late-gothic hall churches of South Germany, with a Romanesque tower gate (1220-30), built 1448 to 1499 to plans by Nikolaus Essler. High altar (crucifixion scene, about 1490), probably from a Bamberg workshop. Gothic font, pulpit and ambry from the period of construction, tracery on the south choir window, the “Pretzel Window”, a gift by the bakers’ guild.
